After working for some of the largest corrugated manufacturers in the U.S., Joe Schmitt decided to strike out on his own.

He and wife MaryAnn launched Jet Container Company with four employees in 1977. Their mission was to offer high-quality containers, superior customer service, and quick delivery.

Just two years later, Jet Container moved to its current headquarters at 2050 S. High Street in Columbus. To serve customers’ needs for fast delivery, the company began offering a line of stock boxes in 1984.

The couple’s four sons grew up in the business, working weekends and summer holidays from junior high school through college. They learned the corrugated business from the ground up.

In 1987, Michael Schmitt began working full-time at Jet Container. Stephen joined him two years later. By 2000, Mark and J. T. completed the team. In 2001, this second generation of Schmitts took over management of Jet Container Company.
